If there is one thing that’s universal about technology, it’s the way it tends to shrink as it improves. Giant, wooden console televisions have evolved into hi-def wall-mounted works of art, measuring only inches in depth. Mobile phones no longer look like WW2 relics and have become as diminutive as they are powerful.

Then there’s the notebook computer. It was birthed from the idea of making technology smaller, so it seems only natural that it would adhere to this rule as much, if not more, than other forms of technology. The latest iteration of this metamorphosis is the ultrabook, which sports models thinner, lighter and more powerful than ever before.
