Best Buy Black Friday Ad Posted

We just posted the 185-item Best Buy Black Friday advertisement listing and the 12-page Best Buy Black Friday advertisement scans.

There isn't anything good to say about this advertisement, it's really horrible. Right now it looks like there could be four scenarios:

  1. This is the legitimate Best Buy BF ad and it is horrible
  2. This is the Best Buy BF advertisement that runs in Wisconsin, where they have laws that don't allow stores to do loss-leader items (more information here)
  3. This is a decoy and the "real" advertisement is still yet to be released
  4. Best Buy will be relying heavily on their "Secret Sales" rather than their actual Black Friday ad

We will update this post later today when we have more information.

Thanks For Visiting and Tell All Your Friends!

Wow, I was expecting and hoping for a lot more.
TVsFrank at 11/13/08 11:19am
Someone needs to learn to scan instead of taking low quality photos.
jeremyf327 at 11/13/08 11:26am
Wow! And I thought last year's was bad. Big disappointment. Hope there's more.
mrfltchr at 11/13/08 11:27am
Definitely not what I expected. Last year there was a desktop for 199. I hope this isn't the best they have to offer. Also I think there were more doorbusters last year. Who wants a 50" 720p when everyone knows that 1080p is best for larger screens anyway. I love the best buy on black friday, but if this is for real they really dropped the ball.
jcicone at 11/13/08 11:28am
I was expecting something good from best buy but.... oh well. Hope there is more coming.
abracadvr8 at 11/13/08 11:33am
Anyone else terribly disappointed with the "doorbusters"? I mean a 899 50 inch 720p TV? No PC or laptop? And a PS3 at regular price with a few BluRay? Please. I know they will probably have 6 or so "secret" items that they will release on Thanksgiving day, but what could that be? Usually something along the lines of a digital camera, a $200 laptop, a $200 desktop. I was really hoping for a nice cheap name brand TV in the range of 45-52 inches, and all I see is the 46 inch insignia The 47inch LG is nice for $1500, but the 120hz is overkill. I would have rather seen a standard 60hz model for $1000 flat. This is the first time in 4 years that I may have to look elsewhere, like Sams Club...
GaryBoz at 11/13/08 11:36am
I'm still pumped!
clave at 11/13/08 11:37am
Really disappointed, most prices are regular prices that you can find in a weekly ad of some other store. I had big hopes for this store. I hope Walmart doesn't do the same in having really poor discounts.
GaryBoz at 11/13/08 11:37am
Some of the other video games that have been out a while are pretty good deals.
abracadvr8 at 11/13/08 11:39am
So that LG 120hz 47inch TV that is $1499 with a free Geek Squad theater set up has savings of over $700. I do some price checking online and found it at Best Buy. Turns out they are selling the TV by itself right now for $1599, marked down from $1800, so its really only a $100 savings if you don't need Geek Squad to set it up...pathetic.
fdiaz82 at 11/13/08 12:03pm
I'm disappointed in the who ever scanned this ad had no idea what they were doing. I'm mean come on Best Buy is one of the must have ads (even though we now see that it sucks) and you give us pictures of half pages that are totally out of order.

Nate21 at 11/13/08 12:05pm
You have really low expectations then. Best Buy is offering nothing special this year and Circuit City is in a world of hurt. Not much should be expected from them.

What a let down.
brooks215 at 11/13/08 12:13pm
...as i suspected the economic woes means a sad black friday. during the summer my notebooks went down and i was contemplating waiting until black friday to pick up a cheap notebook replacement (glad i didn't). i ended up picking up a notebook (compaq) in august at bbuy for roughly the same price as the toshiba ($379) but with a 250HD....

so typically i decide the top of my shopping list based on the adds and hope for the best on the 'surprise' items. but this year i am seriously considering sleeping in and wait until closer to xmas for shopping deals.
skiller at 11/13/08 12:18pm
I belive the Sony laptop is this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9034225&type=product&id=1218010849590

:-/ a whopping $50 off.
cubsfan07 at 11/13/08 12:51pm
I'd actually get the PS3 w/Ratchet & Clank and Casino Royale Blu-Ray deal. Then I'd also get Kung Fu Panda on Blu-Ray for $16.99.

But that all depends on if I'm able to score a 120hz LCD before Black Friday. I'm not standing in line for a TV when the deals now look to be much, much better.

* And I think this PDF was made by combining all the GIANT pictures that someone posted on the message boards. You're better off looking there to see the individual pictures close-up, although be warned - there are 22 MASSIVE pictures in a row and it will blow up your net connection.``
klm12780 at 11/13/08 12:53pm
Strange...it lists the Epson Stylus NX105 Printer/Scanner/Copier as a BUY NOW for $19.99 but whenever I click on the BUY NOW link, it takes me to bestbuy.com but to an HDTV antenna. So I looked at all the printers manually and it's not listed. :(
hudster at 11/13/08 12:53pm
here's hoping this ad happens to be scenario 2 or 3, because if this is for real, this is very disappointing...
jonats14 at 11/13/08 01:06pm
Been looking forward to this all year long. And after seeing this ad, i feel great of my purchase at Big Lots 3 weeks ago. HP 14.1" laptop, Intel Centrino 2, 2.0Ghz, 320 hd, 4 gig ram, HDMI connection, built-in webcam.......... for $599!! It's incomparable with the laptops Best buy is advertising.
traubenberg at 11/13/08 01:16pm
Yes, CC is in a world of hurt ...a DIP reorg under Ch.11 isn't going to be kind to them and they'll lose ground in the consumer electronics market. But, what about BBY? The company president said, "In 42 years of retailing, we've never seen such difficult times." The CEO followed that up by stating that this is "...the most difficult climate we've ever seen. Best Buy simply can't adjust fast enough to maintain our earnings momentum for this year."

So, there are two possible ways to view this:

(1) BBY knows that CC is against the ropes and is going to strike for the jugular. This BF ad is garbage and they're going to finish off CC with some truly killer deals that won't be released until later. The flood of sales will save the fiscal year for BBY and all well end reasonably well.

(2) BBY knows that CC is against the ropes and thus they have no real incentive to give out the types of deals we're expecting. Consumers will be wary of a company that's currently seeking bankruptcy protection and will, instead, flock to BBY because even thought he deals aren't great, the company still appears to be standing on its own. The consumer gets some lackluster deals and hopes for next year. The sales do little for BBY's fiscal year, but CC is vanquished.

I dunno.
jeremyf327 at 11/13/08 01:28pm
I just wanna cry.

I want to cry after seeing it. Hope it is scenarios 2 or 3.
mordeeb24 at 11/13/08 02:12pm
radio shack is better then this ds3 for 29.99 that is a doorbuster
dstraka at 11/13/08 02:19pm
does anyone notice that kung foo panda is featured on all the TVs? that movie came out on nov 11th. isnt there something bigger coming out that should take up this space and not a so-so movie 2.5 weeks old?
totalmeltdown1389 at 11/13/08 02:22pm
i think im gona freakin cry, i was first in line last year at best buy i camped out for bout 3 days and i was lookin forward to pickin up a 37-42in 1080p lcd, blue ray player, wii, gps and other random stuff and this totally kills my hopes, i cant believe how crappy this years sales are this better be fake
antsmarchn at 11/13/08 02:23pm
I really hope this fits scenario #3 and really is a decoy. This has to be the lamest black friday ad ever.
jondoogin at 11/13/08 02:26pm
Is the Canon SD790 digital camera price for real? Why would I spend $199.99 waiting in line on Black Friday when I can buy from Amazon.com right now and get free shipping from the comfort of my own home for $197.60?
businessdiscovery at 11/13/08 02:38pm
Very disappointed after looking at the ad. Last year, I spent almost 2k for laptops (Toshiba and Sony), GPS, HDD's, PC......etc at BB. The year before I could get a 32" 720p TV for about $47x from CC. I just don't see any good items this year so far. I hope this is not a real ad from BB. This year I am looking for a better TV, possibly 42" 1080p.

I think #3 this is a decoy. These prices really suck, especially the doorbusters, if this is real, I'm glad I took advantage of the WalMart sale last weekend.

Klownicle at 11/13/08 03:02pm
I think that sony laptop is a good deal. Its not like WOW! but its good. You mention that laptop being the same. It doesn't have blu ray, stack on 150-200 for a LAPTOP blu ray rom.
clave at 11/13/08 03:06pm
Good point ! Let's hope it's a decoy.
Klownicle at 11/13/08 03:07pm
You guys make mention that this is the wisconsin ad. But in the ad it clear states DOOR BUSTERS on the items.

So if Wisconsin doesn't allow Door Busters. Why does the ad state that there are DOOR BUSTERS.

Just a thought :(
Klownicle at 11/13/08 03:07pm
Also it states...

We'll pass out tickets for select Doorbusters up to two hours before 5 a.m. store opening.

So definatly NOT a wisconsin ad.
moose at 11/13/08 03:30pm
"Doorbusters" is a marketing term just like "Black Friday Sales in July!"

They can call them whatever they want.
hudster at 11/13/08 03:47pm
So-so movie? They're not looking for Oscar material here for this BF sale, they're looking for items that people will want for gifts. And gifts mean kids. And KF Panda was one of two hit movies of this summer, for the kids audience that is. (Wall-e was the other big one) So the fact that they're advertising that movie on a BF sales circular seems pretty appropriate and targeted to me.

I know, you're hoping for some small clue that this ad might be fake or decoy or something. It's ok, I am too, I just think the Kung-fu Panda is not the clue we're looking for...move along... ;)
turkishmonky at 11/13/08 03:48pm
Actually, the laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-FW245J/HC which hasn't been released yet. As I'm in the market for a 16.4" Sony, I've been a bit interested (however i want one with a non-integrated graphics card...and the support pages for the 245J's only have the Intel graphics drivers in them)

You can find that it exists by going to Sony's support website and typing in something a little off like VGN-FW245J/WC into the model number... it will return possible results, one of which will be the VGN-FW245J/HC... but the link will just redirect...
hudster at 11/13/08 03:48pm
There's no crying in black friday!!! ;)
hudster at 11/13/08 03:50pm
the most disappointing part of this ad to me (if it's the real deal) is that there's no uber-hot deals on any decent 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTVs.
Darksky72688 at 11/13/08 04:22pm
I can't help but think that its a fake...I don't know who posted it but honestly, who doesn't know how to use a camera? The whole thing just seems fishy to me...maybe its just my way of avoiding the truth.
astromodder at 11/13/08 04:29pm
They can have doorbusters they are just unable to sell them below cost.

The answer dates all the way back to 1939, when Wisconsin lawmakers passed the Unfair Sales Act. That state law says it's illegal for retailers to sell items below cost. It's supposed to ensure a competitive marketplace.
elmo2274 at 11/13/08 04:59pm
First of all I really hope this is a fake. I like many others here want a new TV and this ad just plain ol' sucks. I can only hope that HHgreg or dare I say it, CC is better.
byron09 at 11/13/08 05:26pm
Check the Sony laptop for $999. Why would it advertise a movie that came out on blue-ray and dvd months ago...?? looks fishy.

If this is the BF add from BB I'm staying home this year. Last year I was the first in line under below frezzing weather, if this is it for this year as far as deal then it's not worth it.

I'm keeping my hopes up this is not it!
schoenike at 11/13/08 05:27pm
I live in Wisconsin, and I don't think that this is a Wisconsin ad. Best Buy has given us the same Black Friday deals as in the other states in the past. Walmart is the only company I know of that actually follows this outdated law. My guess is that this is a decoy. If this is the real ad I bet we'll be seeing Best Buy filing for bankruptcy along with Circuit City.
pianoman224 at 11/13/08 05:49pm
this has just got to be fake. does anyone else notice that guitar hero world tour is not anywhere on the ad??? they're advertising guitar hero three which makes no sense. guitar hero 3 launched end of october last year and that black friday they had it. it would only make sense to have world tour on this ad. and the fact that the xbox 360 "deal" is just 2 crappy games added to the holiday bundle that they currently have for 299. this better be fake or im staying home this year. i was soooooo excited to view these ads....but not anymore.
angherc at 11/13/08 06:15pm
I can't believe this ad!! Surly it is a decoy. I look forward to the BBuy ad every year and this one is sad. We have stood in line for 15 years for the early bird sales and this year I just don't think it is worth it. Please let this be a decoy or let them come out with surprise items like they did last year!
BF345 at 11/13/08 07:15pm
People, c'mon this is just sad.

Of course it's fake - it's the same flier/ad from *this week*! I can't believe people are so easily taken in by this... I mean c'mon. Look at the 'weekly sales' Nov9-15 link on the left navigation for instance; now compare the images for say the Samsung 42" 720p plasma TV. It's the same!

Guys, ugh. And how this site can be posting this stuff and not realize these things themselves just as a matter of obviousness is beyond me. Hell I come here to get my Black Friday info, but when I saw this lunacy, I had to register just to point out the obvious!
angherc at 11/13/08 07:18pm
I was looking at that 299 emachine computer and I think you can buy it right now! How can this be a BF ad when you can buy it at that price right now!
Anonymous at 11/13/08 07:37pm
This has to be a bogus ad. If they want to really shut down CC they have to do better than this. With CC under chapter 11, CC has the potential ability to lower its prices dramatically. Under reorganization, while debts are being negotiated, they have the freedom to pretty much steal the business away by slashing prices. Don't get this confused with a third party "liquidation sale" which is a joke if you fall for it. BB better come with it if they actually want to use Black Friday to get themselves into the "black". If they don't, oh well, go bankrupt like everyone else. Its the american way.
vickpick at 11/13/08 08:06pm
It is not option 2...front page says Doorbusters!
usedmedequipman at 11/13/08 08:08pm
This is honestly the worst ad I've ever seen. Circuit City can go completely out of biz...but this also could be good for CC if they can beat these deals and get the attention they need.

that 50 inch panasonic...you don't even need to wait in line for that...

you can get it for 895 thru an online retailer with free shipping and no tax

check this out...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/543203-REG/Panasonic_TH_50PX80U_TH_50PX80U_VIERA_Plasma_TV.html

This really sucks!! What a disappointment...but I kinda knew it with the state of the economy. Best Buy has even said this will be a horrible year for them and they aren't going to do anything to make it better.
vickpick at 11/13/08 08:09pm
And, yes thats not a correct ad., I have connections with BestBuy (I work there).
Secret Sales are still going to be Big this year, but the actual thanksgiving advertisement will have different prices.
Readers should be surprised by how many more PC's/ PC accessories are going to be on the actual ad.
DJKezo at 11/13/08 08:15pm
wanna hook a brotha up?
snapwink at 11/13/08 09:27pm
Looks like the ad is genuine, but many of the prices have been morphed using photoshop. Look at the price of the PS3 console on page 1. You would clearly see it is much clearer than its sorroundings.
franze98 at 11/13/08 09:29pm
this is legit, the tv's would be cheaper, but they bundled their geek squad crap service with most of them. I would rather they take away the service and sell me the tv $100 cheaper. the guitar hero bundle for $80 includes 2 guitars. A $60 digital camera? the stuff is there, you just got to look closer.
totalmeltdown1389 at 11/13/08 09:44pm
your one hundred percent this ad is not right?
daheatfan12 at 11/13/08 09:45pm
yea i agree with snapwink
if you look closely at some of the items
it looks way bolder than other things
that's one reason why it could be a fake
the other is as some people have said
there is kung fu panda on every tv
which just came out last week
so who knows...
hopefully this is a decoy
cuz this f***in sucks
dphs1 at 11/13/08 09:46pm
Hi,

Over the past year as i transitioned to college i picked up a part time job at bestbuy.

I CAN CONFIRM THIS ADD IS FAKE!!!!

While i have not seen the add myself i showed this site to my manager who is a personal friend and he told me this is not the official best buy ad. He someone put this together. He wouldnt say exactly what was on the ad but he did mention that in general the prices seen on this ad like say for a tv is significantly lower. He even brought up the emachine desktop or whatever is on the ad and say this should even be obvious that a new item on black friday is unlikely to be on sale and it wouldnt make sense as these sales are planned months ahead of time and best buy wouldnt release a product on the blackfriday ad that was going to be in store a few weeks earlier.

So, all im saying is that my manager says its fake so im going to take his word for it.
totalmeltdown1389 at 11/13/08 09:48pm
on a lighter note lol how early are you all gona wait in line, im going tuesday night if the ad gets better
dphs1 at 11/13/08 09:59pm
Also as a add on to my past post.....

My manager as well said there are going to be better prices on tv's because BB is trying to beat the competition to the February 17th DTV transition so.......................
Alias33 at 11/13/08 10:10pm
God, this is turning out to be the worst bf ever. If everything is true about the bb ad, the cc item and prices leaked, and the target items and prices leaked. This is gonna be the worst bf ever. This freakin sux.
xeyro at 11/13/08 11:09pm
My guess is option #5. This is probably a scan of a sample created by whatever department or company is designing the ad. The prices and TV pictures used are just placeholders until the final prices and shots are determined. I'm going to guess that the products are pretty accurate, but that the prices and details will change.
lovings at 11/14/08 06:43am
I have to agree with Alias33 that things aren't looking too good for BF this year. I am looking for a specific camera that the Sears BF ad has listed for $35 more than what I can get it on Amazon right now and for the same price that I could actually get it at Sears right now. If this BB ad is real (??), they seem to have the same lack luster pricing. I really wish I had a clue as to what they are all doing. At this point, not really motivating me to shop on BF for much.
Ericd3043 at 11/14/08 07:43am
The correct answer is.... # 1 - it is the correct ad. # 4 could be accurate, since no one knows what the Secret sales are....
totalmeltdown1389 at 11/14/08 07:54am
how do you kno the correct answer
vlhgsd at 11/14/08 07:55am
I know the prices are right on the televisions. My husband's company is one of the 3 that print BB ad's. It was printed last week and is under lock and key. He called me with the prices on the tv's as I'm looking to get one. Said mostly dynex and mostly computer stuff. Nothing great.
sforbes42 at 11/14/08 09:18am
I haven't seen, what I would call, a good Black Friday since 2005. I got so much free stuff from Staples that year through rebates.

Best Buy in general is not the best buy anymore. They are ridiculously priced when compared to buying online with someone like Newegg or even Amazon. I go into the store to find out what is interesting to me, then I order it online from somewhere else, and I can usually wait for a great deal to pop up on Slick Deals.
lojik98 at 11/14/08 10:35am
I'm by no means a professional, but I've done a fair amount of photo editing work in a lot of classes and my cousin is a graphic artist and we both agree that there doesn't appear to be anything fake about the photos. It would, however be a lot easier to tell for sure if whoever submitted it would scan it. Honestly who doesn't have a scanner or know someone who does these days? I don't beleive it's a decoy add either. I live in Missouri and the "Secret" sales last year weren't that remarkable, so I don't think they're relying on them, at least in this market. I think option 1 and 2 are the most likely, 1 being the most. This economy is pathetic, for the consumers as well as the businesses. While slashing prices on a few items is enough to drum up bait and switch buyers most years, this year people will not "settle" for a similar deal when the one they came for is gone. I know a lot of people that miss out on the door busters that take something close for not as good of a deal, but if you're a consumer who's not doing so well like myself, you're probably just going to leave. Which, on top of companies like BB not getting a sale, angry people, like myself, leave aggravated and sometimes don't come back for months because they were burned on a door buster by someone who has two days to sit in front of a store waiting for $200 off a TV. I make more than that working half of one of those two days, but you can be sure that I'll be the one incredibly upset that I missed out on a sale.

Whew, sorry, long post. Bottom line is, my wife and I have done the majority of our Christmas shopping on BF for the last five years, I'm sure we'll still be out there, but Best Buy is not looking like a major go-to stop.
dirtmcgirt at 11/14/08 12:16pm
Well, with the Circuit City ad now starting to surface on the web, I would say that this BB ad is probably legit. Circuit City's is just about as terrible. That is unless it's also a fake..
dirtmcgirt at 11/14/08 12:18pm

Bookworm51485 at 11/14/08 12:28pm
Circuit City applied for Bankruptcy, so they could be part of the reason for the crappiness of their Black Friday sales.
ckt at 11/14/08 01:23pm
Don't you think whatever studio is the highest bidder will be the movie on the TVs? Don't discount KFPanda as a clue yet... the movie came out this past week and therefore those graphics were readily available if a) someone (not BB) wanted to print a fake ad or b) BB wanted to use those images as placeholders in their mock for the real ad. I suppose only time will tell, but I'm not going to hit my BF depression yet.
Bookworm51485 at 11/14/08 03:42pm
I wish people would stop going so early. Tuesday is pretty excessive for a sale that's on Friday. I miss the days when you could go 5am Friday morning and be first in line. I think the people who started going earlier and earlier and pushing others to go earlier and earlier have ruined the Black Friday experience.
momtocj7mea at 11/14/08 05:01pm
Well, I have never been a fan of CC and their prices have always been higher in my area. Check out this ad about BB:

"We are expecting significant markdowns into Black Friday," she said.

http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/djf500/200811121317DOWJONESDJONLINE000717_FORTUNE5.htm

Supposedly they are going to have to make significant markdowns if they hope to even make a dismal profit so hopefully this ad is fake or the secret sales are going to be really amazing this year! Another scenario is that they plan to lower prices throughout the store for the entire holiday season (maybe not to Black Friday pricing, but significantly lower)I am keeping my fingers crossed that this ad is fake otherwise I will be sleeping in for BF this year!
gamble at 11/14/08 07:26pm
If you follow the link for the Samsung 19" LCD monitor under the "185-item Best Buy Black Friday advertisement listing" link and look at the model number, its actually an entirely different model than what the scanned ad says. Actually the one in the scanned ad is a really crappy monitor. More importantly, the one in the link is worth lining up for (if the cost will be $100) and the one in the scanned ad is not worth lining up for (even if it is $100...or even $80)

When I first looked through the BB scans my first thought was WOW this is the worst Black Friday ad ever for BB. I thought something seemed different about the scans but could not put my finger on it. So I was not surprised with the e-mail that I recieved today explaining that it may be a fake. I have went to BB first every year for the last 4 or 5 years. I informed my wife I would not have to go to BB this year. Why is the Guns and Roses CD 11.99? Hell most new CD's that come out on Tuesdays that BB sells are 9.99. Is this a 2 disc set???? Something just does not seem right and I hope for BB's sake that this is a fake ad or BB may be filing for bankruptcy.

joeblackfriday at 11/15/08 01:06pm
Here's the deal. I got the BB ad for this next week and there are no Kung-Fu Pandas in it. It has Animal Crossing for Wii and Wall*E, which is new on DVD this week. Why would BB go to a new release this week then back to an older release next week? It's ridiculous.

Also, this week they will have Blu-Ray Discs at $19.99 such as National Treasure and National Treasure 2 - so they are only going to take that to $16.99 on BF with lower quality movies? uh-uh.

Another thing - the BB ad for this next week has the Blackberry Storm in it, which is releasing this week...where is it in the BF ad? hmmmm.

There's too much weird stuff about this ad to make me think it is legit. I estimate that by Wednesday we will know the truth.

NToMyTree at 11/16/08 06:53am
BestBuy sale? This ad cannot be for real! I do not think there will be lines around the buildings this year if this is the real ad. They must have someone in their sales / ad department from Circuit City working for them. I am very dissappointed!!!

Ok So This Black Friday Is Going To Be Horrible!
I Know A High Ranking Manger For Best Buy In California, and when he saw this ad, he said that the major items such as TV's and Games were not that high priced. Maybe there is a little hope for this years BF. Also i was hoping that if CC was going out of business, they would post mind blowing ads to attract customers. They suck at this!! One more theory of this is that BB is waiting till the 24th bcuz they want to see the competitions prices, and try to beat them by at least 20%

I think this is a legit ad--they just print them so far in advance then at the end (at least here in Vegas) they add a line in black that says "take an additional $300 off" etc. so the ad I think is correct but the pricing will change. Also, Managers know the items (because their shipments of those items increase) but they do not know the prices till the night before.
loren bagby at 11/17/08 12:31pm
Does anyone know if you can buy BB bf items online on bf? I have always avoided BB on bf because of the hugh crowd and the people camping out from the evening before.
haliastur at 11/17/08 12:48pm
I think IT IS #3. The reason: BB are having "pre-Black Friday" sales, the prices which are even lower than what is in this ad. What better way to clear out your inventory, for a "better price" than having a "fake ad" & then getting panicked customers (who were delaying buying something until BF) to go for a "better" deal.

... I just hope I'm right. Otherwise, it'll be pretty depressing in 11 days time.
astromodder at 11/17/08 03:10pm
I don't remember seeing any doorbuster items online last year, however most of the regular sale items in the ad (things not on the cover) were available online last year.
tahsir21 at 11/17/08 05:43pm
yes you can, last year best buy had a "secret site page" and you were able to purchase many items that were in the ad. What originally happened was at 9PM pacific, best buy had a link on their home page for abt 5 mins. They had the $299 laptop on the site, but it wouldnt let you save it to your cart for longer then 5 mins. They also had that $199 sony home theater system, i bought that online, and i also bought the 24.99 epson printer online the night before black friday. Just look out for the secret page this year, i already think i have the link, i will post it up later on when i get home, but this link is proving to be the most credible one.
tahsir21 at 11/17/08 05:46pm
Ok, I am now sure that this is the Legit best buy ad. The good news is that the pricing on these items is abt 30% less then what is stated. I know that many people have said that the managers have no clue abt the pricing, but they DO!!! I just spoke to one, and they said that the PS3 in particular has more games for that price.
daheatfan12 at 11/17/08 11:21pm
yea im pretty sure after taking closer looks at the ad,
it looks to me like the ad is legit
it just looks like something bb would put on an ad
what i think would be different on the final ad, will be defenitily be lower prices, hot doorbusters, secret sales, and many other offers
if the final ad is this adscan on now
they are looking foward to filing for bankruptcy
some other good competiitors for black friday right now look like staples in my opinion.
they got a olympus fe-350 for $99 from $250!
i am also looking foward to the $13 8gb usb drive
other than staples' ad, the target ad looks decent
i am hoping for a good black friday this year
MNWildFan88 at 11/18/08 04:15pm
Ad looks legit. But I know the "deals" aren't that great:

The 2GB of PC-5300 memory they claim is $100 off can be purchased today at Newegg.com for $5 less than the BF price.

The TV's are not priced that competitively.

I can only hope that new, lower prices (and quite frankly, some additional choices) will be coming in next Thursday's ad.

Without good BF sales to attract customers, it's going to be a flood of red ink this Christmas season for retailers. It's already looking to be bloody for some, but it could turn into a tidal wave without some attractive deals to entice shoppers. Barring that, consumers can only hope for better and better deals as Christmas approaches, and quite possibly some outrageous post-Christmas sales to deplete inventory.

your a pansy... if you want to be first inline you gotta make sacrifices boo wooo i cant be lazy and go to the store at 5 when it opens to be first in line any more grow a pair and spend a night out
loneprimavera at 11/20/08 09:20am
A lot of you seem to think that Best Buy is filing for bankruptcy. Do not worry that is not happening. I am an employee and I assure you that Best Buy is doing very well financially. As for whether or not this ad is a fake... honestly they don't even show us the regular ads until the day they come out but sometimes they'll show us the BF ads the night before Thanksgiving so we'll be prepared. As of right now I don't know but the pictures look like a regular ad.
eddie803 at 11/20/08 10:00am
Ok, I just registered just to let everyone know THIS IS A FAKE. All you have to do is zoom in like 600x in adobe, and on every page on the bottom right corner where the date is, there is a dot on the 2, for "27" the 2 in "27" is totally different, than the "2" in 2008", just look at the way the top of the two curves. I can't believe nobody didn't notice this before, and if BB is reading this, you should email me a $500 Gift Card, for being the first. Eddie eddiemarketing@gmail.com
eddie803 at 11/20/08 10:19am
Ok, I just noticed, its not on every page. Its only on the pages, that have "November 27" next "2008", on the bottom right corner. The last page is one of the pages, and there are a few more, if you have no idea what I am talking about, just read my post below.

HI all,

Employee at Best Buy here. Not here to defend or persuade either way. I'm not a big HD TV guy and frankly I've NEVER waited outside for a doorbuster, but I do have one question for you:

What are you expecting?

I understand that most people think we are under going to sink Circuit City and I too would anticipate that.

I ask because I'm not personally sure if this is a fake, but I would prefer to know whether or not I should tell some of my customers that they should come back Friday/Saturday for a price match. Otherwise, it's not really fair to them.

For now, only referencing the ad if I know what is REALLY in it. I prefer not to create customer service issues!

Can I just say that I have worked at both Circuit City and at Best Buy in the past and the people that are saying that they "do not know" what items are in the ad is a flat out lie!

The policies would have had to change within the last year because I worked BF at Circuit City in 2007 and let me tell you that we had the ad almost 3 full weeks away from BF. Yes, the stores keep them locked up tight and yes, employees usually do not get to see or know where they are. If you know any of the CSA's or the Managers though, you can pretty easily find out when and where they will be.

It frustrates me that these people have such "loyalty" to their company that they feel that they need to lie about it to get on their "good side." Sounds more like brown-nosing to me!

HERE is what I want to know: can you confirm that Best Buy will be offering their non-Doorbuster Black Friday deals ONLINE this year, like they did last year? Last year I stayed home and did all my shopping from the couch and got everything I wanted. I'd like to know if that will be the case this year and if so, what time (EST).
Thanks!

yes you should zoom in with adobe and NO they should not give you a $500 gift card because if you actually take the time and look at other paper best buy ads you would notice that they always put that dot on the corners on every page. it is a hole and they put them across the bottom at every page. just look at the last page. there are holes starting on the left side under the word package, then under the $340 package savings, and even on the 161 near the "2" in "27" you claim to be faked. and the date thanksgiving day November 27, 2008 is when the ad comes out in newspapers. and the way you say the "2" curves, did you know that when they punch that little hole pattern, it comes out towards you? so if you push that in, it WILL come out to match the OTHER "2" in 2008. if you think i am making this up just look at page 12, 18, 30, 33 of 36 in the adscan and you will see there is the same pattern of holes on the bottom.

I am interested to know if and when the sales will be offered online. I am really interested in the $599 HP desktop. It is not a doorbuster, but it seems to be an incredibly good deal. Several hundred dollars less than anything comparable. I am definitely willing to stand outside in line, if need be. But it would be easier if I could get it online.

Also, I can't find the specific model on Best Buy's website or any other for that matter. I would like to know a little bit more about the specs. I know it is a quad core AMD processor with 6 gigs of RAM, but dont know much of anything else.

I too am hoping the 'leaked' ads are just fakes and the real ads come out shortly.

I was in one of our local BB (3 of them within 15 mins of each other) and took this picture http://twitpic.com/nffs This does not show the 2 other pallets behind me. Also as you walk in the door and off to the right where the carts normally would have been it full of additional pallets of tv (lcd/plasmas) stacked about 15 feet high. And there were probably another 5-6 pallets scattered around the store.

They must also be planning on selling ALOT of rockband-2 since there seemed to be at least 100+ of them either on the floor or up on the upper storage area.

pdbaxter at 11/24/08 10:12am
INTERESTING:
I've been tracking the price of an HDTV (LG 42LG70). The web price was $1599, then dropped to about $1300 last week. Now it's back up to $1599 again.
The Black Frdiay price is now shown as back down to $1300 again.
So they retracted a previous markdown only to give back as a "Black Friday Special"!
MNWildFan88 at 11/25/08 01:12pm
The Black Friday ad is now available on Best Buy's website, and it's the same ad.

http://bestbuy.shoplocal.com/bestbuy/default.aspx?action=entryflash&PromotionCode=112708MW&AdRef=05

Very disappointing "sales". The only people who will get a good deal are those who are lucky enough to get the Doorbusters. The rest are SOL. The Toshiba laptop is the only thing I'd really want, and I don't particularly feel like camping out for one.
