Dell Vostro 1000 Laptop w/ 15.4" Screen for $399 at Dell

Sold out, congratulations for those who got in on the deal.

Friday, Nov 23 Update
Dell has put their Vostro 1000 laptop back on sale for $399 for a limited time only on Black Friday! The drawback is that the new Vostro 1000 has a less powerful processor than the original one. The new one has a Sempron 3600+ compared to the Athlon TK-53, which isn't a drastic change, but still a change.

If you are still interested in the Vostro 1000, you can order it right now for $399 w/ Free Shipping by following these steps:

  1. Click here to go to Dell Small Business
  2. In the Search box, type in bqdaiad and hit enter
  3. Click on the Vostro 1000 search result
  4. Do not modify any of the parts, just click "Buy Now" (the coupon is only good for one configuration, modifying any component will invalidate the coupon)
  5. Once it is done building your system, hit Add to Cart
  6. On the My Cart page, where it asks "enter coupon code" type in RH23N?MWL3KF1C and then click Apply Coupon
  7. If checkout asks you for a Business Name, enter BFAds

The original post, which is no longer valid, is below:

Dell has the Dell Vostro 1000 Dual Core Laptop w/ 1GB Memory and 15.4" Widescreen Display for $399 shipped right now. This laptop is probably the best deal you can get this Black Friday season without waiting in line for 6+ hours in the freezing cold. The Vostro 1000 comes equipped with the following features:

  • AMD AthlonTM 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-53 (1.7GHz/512KB)
  • Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic
  • 15.4" Wide Screen XGA LCD Anti-Glare Display
  • 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ
  • 120GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
  • 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double-layer DVD+R Write Capability, for Vista® OS
  • ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory™ (integrated)
  • Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
  • 1 Year Dell Warranty

For those who prefer Windows XP over Windows Vista, you can also get the Vostro 1000 w/ Windows XP for the same price by clicking here.

There is no coupon required, just click on the link and check-out. When you check out and Dell asks you for a business name, enter anything you want. Most people just enter their name again. The Vostro 1000 completely blows away the Acer laptop that was offered at Circuit City yesterday. The Vostro 1000 is a very good laptop by itself; for this price, it’s exceptional.

Thanks for Visiting and Tell Your Friends!

If anyone is interested in getting this latpop, I ordered one as a gift for someone, but no longer need it. It is still in the box and has not been opened at all. Please reply with your email if you are interested and I can send you the specs for the one I got. I will give it to you at cost. I live in Chicago.

do you still have this? mtjohnson@bendbroadband.com

i noticed some people stating that they get an optical compatibility note when selecting vista premium. Just letting you know that when I chose vista premium, it worked fine for me. No note popped up for me
kixor at 11/23/07 06:58pm
I called Dell to inquire about the coupon, and they said that it has been removed due to inventory shortages. I was assured that there will likely be more promotions in the future, and quite possibly of a similar nature.
Anonymous at 11/23/07 02:58pm
So when i go to submit my order i just get a screen that says 'error.' I tried twice but it still happens. Any idea what's going on? If i need to call the order in what number do i use? damn, this is frusturating :(

I am having this problem as well, has anyone come up wiht a solution?
khaki9091 at 11/23/07 01:46pm
I went back in and verified the code it is invalid or has expired this is the problem we've been having "RH23N?MWL3KF1C". Sorry I believe we are just out of luck unless Dell fixes the problem or sends out a new code.

Heres an update for you.....from the time I posted my first entry....about less than an hour ago....I have already received my "Dell Order Has Been Acknowledged"....and my " Dell Order Has Been Confirmed ". Better get this deal while you still can. Good luck to everyone.
gusnjax at 11/23/07 11:34am
What a deal.....no waiting in long lines...and getting a lot more bang for your buck...and a very good company, Dell. I followed all the instructions above, no problems. i purchased two of these for a grand total of $853.87, thats with tax and free shipping. This is by far the best deal on a laptop. Thanks again to the moderators of this site on a job well done. Merry Christmas to all of you!!!

P.S. Dont forget about how much $$$$$ you are saving by shopping online with gas at an average of $3.15 a gallon.
edsmd2 at 11/23/07 11:14am
Thank you! The codes worked. This deal is better than going to the store.
skittles8553 at 11/23/07 10:41am
This is a good deal for a basic laptop. I ordered my Dad one since he just needs something to type and print and then my newly graduated college student sister acted like she was going to cry because she was not getting one so we ordered 2! The codes worked perfect!!!!

Hey Surfgirl

I am also waiting for the $399 Dell Vostro and it is 6:10am PST. I went to the Dell site and do see they have it offered for $429. I might just get it now instead of waiting too long and missing out like I did wed.
surf gurl at 11/23/07 08:12am
Hey ericc815 i am just not sure what to do because i want the $399 deal but i also dont want to miss out so i might also just get it for $429. Thank you for responding.
lg62889 at 11/23/07 07:32am
I got mine - no problems. $399 and is confirmed as "in production" with a ship date of 11/29. I ordered mine late Wednesday.

surf gurl at 11/23/07 06:42am
I have a question does anyone know when the lap tops go back on sale?? It says Friday but they are not on sale yet and its almost 8:00am!! Any ideas?
rose1marie1 at 11/20/07 11:14pm
I TRIED TO BUY IT AT ABOUT 10:30 LAST NIGHT. I THOUGHT IT WENT THROUGH AND PROCESSED. I WAS WAITING FOR A CONFORMATION EMAIL BUT THEN I WENT TO THE WEBSITE AND FOUND OUT THAT I FORGOT THE E-VALUE CODE OR SOMETHING. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT IS AND CAN YOU REPLY...THANKS
kdc1595 at 11/20/07 04:32pm
Thanks so much for the tip.
I was able to order two systems last nite. Received acknowledgement and confirmation right away.

If Dell offers a similar laptop, I recommend getting the XP version. Unless you have all new periphials, there are a lot of compatibility issues with Vista. Most Techies still prefer XP.

Good Luck on getting another bargain to all those who missed out on this one!
alexdiazleal at 11/20/07 04:23pm
it sux! it sold out! Dell has to renew this offer.
mopar_man at 11/20/07 04:33pm
I agree. I waited too long and missed out. Hopefully they get more very soon.
cricket081148 at 11/20/07 04:10pm
Well I just called to order the laptop because it would not let me on line and they said they are sold out! It was just put on yesterday and was supposed to run till the 26th I think it was a hoax to get you to order something else! I have had this problem before with Dell and I'm not very happy!!!
bigmakinmich at 11/20/07 03:35pm
I called the 800 number at the top of the page after clicking the link.. this model is now up to $449 the $399 deal was for "limited quantities" and are all sold out
DTHkyDad at 11/20/07 03:18pm
Diddo...

Sold Out...

Does anyone know an 'e-vaule code' that works???
nittanydave at 11/20/07 03:02pm
Looks like this is expired now. Get the error below when clicking the link.

"We're sorry, but we are unable to process your request. The e-value code you entered is either incorrect, not eligible on the Dell Business website, or has expired."
morris5 at 11/20/07 03:11pm
The Dell site shows it as 'Sold Out'. They still have the Vostro 1400 for $599 which has the Intel processor. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=04&kc=6W300&l=en&oc=bqdwj4c&s=bsd

I live in California, and Dell is in Texas. Which state's tax do they claim to be collecting from me? I don't pay sales tax on any other out of state mail order or online purchases; what gives here?

moniquec68 at 11/20/07 01:25pm
After reading a comment below that they only received an email acknowledgement and not an email confirmation, I had yet to receive a confirmation so called Dell and have been on the phone w/them the past 15 minutes... they were only showing the "Free Microsoft Office Live Basics", not the order for the Vostro 1000 Laptop which is what I only ordered, so now I'm still on hold w/the guy trying to figure out where my order is. My order did not go through, have to place it again. The guy said there was a glitch in the system cancelling the orders out yesterday... pretty nice guy that I could understand what he was saying on the phone, he knew exactly what I was talking about.
Moeleesa at 11/20/07 03:52pm
I had also received only an acknowledgement, but not a confirmation. When I called, the guy on the phone told me the order was pending and if I didn't receive the confirmation email tomorrow to call back. He told me that I may have to reorder. I told him that I bought it while they were having a promotion and asked if I would get it at the same price. He said, "yes". Did anyone else receive this same response from Dell? I'm worried that because it's "sold out" that I won't get the good deal.
moniquec68 at 11/20/07 07:54pm
I was told the same thing, that it was still pending credit card approval. Then he sent me a "confirmation" email and I noticed the amount at the bottom said $0.01. And I asked him why was the amount only $0.01. He gave me a number to call because they had a problem with the order. He would have let me off the phone like that if I hadn't asked why the amount said $0.01 and not $418.94, and that's because it was not showing the Vostro 1000, only the Free Microsoft Office Live Basic. I got transferred to about four people in a 30-minute timeframe trying to get it all straightened out with the last two guys (who spoke clear English) helping me out the most.
lovings at 11/21/07 10:05am
We posted before that we received an acknowledgement but not a confirmation and Dell didn't seem to know anything about our order. At the time, Dell suggested that we put in the order again since it seemed like it didn't go through since they were having system issues. Lo and behold, this morning we got a confirmation for the original order! So, keep an eye on your email if you ordered one on-line and were then told that it didn't go through and ordered it again on the phone. Not overly impressed with Dell's customer service on this one - I think they were a little overwhelmed.

I only received the acknowledgement email so I chatted with 2 Dell customer service reps. They advised me to reorder the computer which I did. I received the acknowledgement and confirmation on the 2nd computer. The next day I got the confirmation on the 1st computer I ordered!! I now have 2 $399 computers in production!! LOL!!
wilakers at 11/20/07 10:55am
I got to the very end and it is charging me $93 S&H, what am I doing wrong???!!! I clicked on the link and it showed the price of $399 and I added the protection plan and went to check out. That is where it shows the shipping and then 23 tax. Has anyone had this problem?
mikora6 at 11/20/07 12:28pm
I just ordered this for myself and am paying nothing for shipping. Did you check the box for 3-5 day shipping (it shows the $27 charge and then subtracts it away.) If not, then you might have the expidited shipping marked by default.

mopar_man at 11/20/07 02:31pm
I was going to guess the same. I went through the checkout process to try this out myself and I got the free shipping. There's a charge but in orange/red lettering, it's canceled out to be free.
bsanford at 11/20/07 09:16am
Does anyone know:
1) When the deal will expire?
2) How much the low-end Vostro usually goes for?

I'd like to wait until this weekend to buy, but Dell deals usually expire either by some date certain, or else after a fixed number of purchases (say, 1000 uses only).

Anyone know?
dlseger at 11/20/07 12:20pm
Yikes. I would be careful about waiting. I am not sure if this deal is "prebundled" with Vista or XP, but I ordered the XP version. I wonder if they might sell out one or the other more quickly? I had watched specials at most of the office and computer stores recently...but it is hard to find XP still. Best Buy had some good prices, and bundles, but have not had any currently at this price in the last two weeks. Staples looks like it has a black friday special (IGB RAM)for $349 but with an 80GB hard drive instead of 120. I did not have any trouble ordering and both the authorization and confirmation came through immediately. I also called my automated bank account, and the debit had also come through authorization just as fast. My tax was $35.55. It just depends on what state and county you are in.

It says you cannot use your preferred account. does anyone know a way around this?
gusnjax at 11/23/07 11:37am
There is no way around this....I tried calling and everything online. I had to use a mastercard...its still a great deal.

Great deal... been telling everybody bout this deal... purchased 3 today so far.
rah8705 at 11/19/07 09:13pm
We just purchased it...came to $607 with an added $169 3 year warrenty that comes with a Free $75 Dell Giftcard. I can admit, this is better than waiting for it to be at CCity...when you dont know what number in line you will be, how many computers there are...this is a good deal. Although Dell says this is ONLY for small buisnesses when I called, it is not-we went all the way through and used my personal old acct and it went though and is confirmed as of right now. Links worked for me. I used a modzilla browser and Int. Explorer, both worked.

Is it not possible to get the $399 with Vista Home Premiusm? I get this message:

Optical Drive selected only supports Windows® Vista Home Basic or Business Operating System.

Seems kind of weird.
lyneee at 11/19/07 08:06pm
when you get the message: "Optical Drive selected only supports Windows® Vista Home Basic or Business Operating System."
Just switch your dvd option to 8X DVD+/-RW with Double-layer DVD+R Write Capability and it will work for you.

Just to reiterate a point from another post below - if you ordered online look carefully at any e-mails you receive to make sure your order was received. We received an Order Acknowledgment in our e-mail but never received an Order Confirmation. I called Dell to confirm our online order and it was not showing in their system at all. I had to reorder over the phone with a customer services rep - received the same pricing no problem. Be sure to check your order confirmation carefully (or check your account online at Dell.com where it should show up as well).
KimAthey at 11/20/07 05:16am
Thank you soooooo much for this comment... I placed this order yesterday at 5:30am!!! VERY excited to get this for my son for Christmas.... Received the Acknowledgement email, but not the confirmation! Had to completely re-order & have received both Acknowledgement & Confirmation messages!!! Thanks so much for letting us know this!

I bought one and the price is awesome. Thank you so much for posting this.

The price should be $399. Are you clicking on the link in the news post? If not, click here: http://bfads.net/Link/298

Hit Buy Now, the price should be $709 with $310 Instant Savings.

When it prompts you for a business name, just make one up or type in your own name.

Just ordered online, the basic system. Not a hitch. Just used a made up company name when asked. Had to pay the tax of $23, but got the shipping free. This will replace my daughters Inspiron notebook. She will love it! Got it with XP as well, not messing with troublesome Vista.
jgrell at 11/19/07 03:40pm
just FYI for the online orders out there. I thought I ordered one this am. Called because I wanted to add word to my order and they said errors were occurring on their system and my order did not go through. I had received the confirmation email saying my order was acknowledged. I only found out about the problem cuz I called. Is all fine now, but had to go through the order process again. Still better than freezing friday morn.
morris5 at 11/20/07 07:30am
I received my acknowledgement but never got a confirmation email. I chatted online with a Dell rep this morning and he said there was an error. I am supposed to call the Small Business Unit this morning. If you ordered online and haven't received a confirmation email, you might want to give Dell a call or check your online status.

I just ordered one for my boyfriend --- base configuration with XP. I threw in a 15-month subscription to Norton Antivirus for $79, which comes with a $79 Dell gift card (I'm thinking this will be helpful for buying a wireless mouse and carrying case, etc). No problems at all, got the $399 price over the phone and didn't need to make up a business name.
jaelynne at 11/19/07 02:58pm
Whoops, that was $69 for the Norton software, and a $69 Dell gift card.
akamjn at 11/19/07 02:07pm
Got mine at 5am. XP package. No problems what-so-ever!! Simple as pie!! Thanks for the heads up. Even applied for and received business credit.......(we do have a tax-id #) and the whole process took less than 15 minutes!!
bobster99 at 11/19/07 11:51am
Just oredered the computer.

No problem with the business name, just make something up.

Great Deal,

Thanks Michael

When you guys got the order to go through, did you have to use a coupon code? I am ordering it online and it is coming out waaaay more.

I couldn't get the link to work either. I had to go straight to the Dell website.
robertar67 at 11/19/07 01:52pm
Are you going through small business or home & personal? My understanding is that this deal is only good through small business.
traceysteinbach at 11/19/07 11:17am
the link doesn't work... I tried to go on the dell site and it doesn't show that one... help!

SWEET deal... got mine, just used my side business name. It's processing and should go through. Now I don't have to wait out in the cold. THANKS bfads!!!!!
kimboloco at 11/19/07 10:44am
Okay, were trying to purchase the Vista package, but upgrade to premium for the extra, but we got a note stating that the optical drive (only one available) doesn't support the premium. Switch over to XP and had no problems.
AlbertRoss at 11/19/07 10:31am
FYI -- the WSJ's Walter Mossberg reviewed the Vostro line (see this link:
http://ptech.allthingsd.com/20070823/new-dell-vostra-line-misses-mark-in-aim-for-tiny-businesses/)
and conluded: "Overall, the Vostro 1500 is just an OK laptop, which isn’t different enough from consumer models to really earn the small-business designation it claims."
He had a Vostro 1500, not the 1000 of this sale, and noted that it did NOT come with a dial-up modem, that it weighed in at over 7#, and that pricing for the 1500 started at $549.
Also, wikipedia has a complete list of the Vostro line's specs. Google vostro wiki to get it.

If I actually needed a laptop this would be a DAMN good deal, unfortunately I don't really need one, nor do I want to go through the hassle of reselling it again this year. My loss is everyone elses gain I suppose!

For the record this is the best deal on an online laptop I have seen yet!

Glad to hear that, I just placed my order went through with no problem, I chose Windows XP as I use Linksys for my modem & router connection and have talked to quite a few people who are having issues connecting the Vista with there Linksys, also have been told there is not much difference, I use my computer for the basics email, shopping etc. I have a toshiba laptop 3 1/2 years young and it crashed I used the recover disc brought it back lasts for about 2 days then crashes, brought it to Best Buy they paid $60 for them to tell me the hard drive is failing, the computer looks like it just came out of the box I am the only one to use it,but I am not going to pay $290 for them to put in a new hard drive. Anyway
