Reader Kathy had this to say about the JCPenney sales, "the deals are VERY good, especially for those who dread the crowds on Black Friday" and "As a former JCP employee, I can honestly say this was probably the second best time to get your Christmas shopping done!"
It looks like it's going to be a busy weekend of sales and it never hurts to get some of your Black Friday / Holiday shopping out of the way early.
Thanks for Visiting and Tell Your Friends!
Visiting Walmart to see if we can score a 360, or do a 180.
I wandered over to walmart's site to double check what time the sale started, and on a whim clicked through to the 360 product page and saw the add to cart button.
To me, it's worth paying $8 to not stand in line for a couple hours.
Assuming that we take the $100 gift card off the price (Amazon.com prices below):
$100 for the system
$100 60GB HDD
$50 per year for online
$75 Wi-Fi adapter
That's $250 for one year of online. It's $325 if you need the Wi-Fi adapter. Plus you might want the plug n' play charge adapter for another $17. All that for a system that can't play Blu-ray Discs.
And did I mention that the hardware stinks? I tried to warn people earlier. Don't complain to me when it gets the Red Ring of Death. I should have listened to the people warned me about it before I had to send mine in 3 times for repair.
She gave me the giftcard, and I said, can I use it now? She said, go right ahead, so I tried, and it denied it plus it locked up her system! FUN!
Thanks BfadsMan!
if you would of spent the extra money for the 60GB one for $249.99 brand new its way better.
how do I know this I got my Xbox 360 60GB on last years friday. paid $325 at best buy got 4 games then sold all 4 games for $100.
also you can find all the extra stuff on ebay don't buy it from the same place you get your xbox from since they rip you off...
But it sounds like you just hate the 360, so.
2. Really? Didn't know about an Ethernet cord. I guess I should have known that with an IT and an Electrical Engineering degree.
3. As for the HDD - you're right. It isn't a necessity. But the Live Marketplace will be a lot worse without it.
4. And yes. I do hate the 360. I hate that MS played us early adopters. No HDMI and expensive add-ons (remember that $200 HD-DVD drive they tried to get us to buy so Blu-ray wouldn't win?).
Most of all, though, I hate that they purposefully put faulty hardware on the market. It has been found out that MS knew of the 33%+ failure rate with the 360. They didn't care. They just wanted to be first to the market. So...remind me again why I wouldn't hate it? Thanks MS. I've loved sending in my 360 THREE times.
I just hope people don't start crying when they realize it's going to cost MOST people way more than $200. That, and if you didn't get the Jasper model, it has a really good chance of failing.
I bought the 60gb one last year and haven't had any problems with it. I paid $30 for a year to play with other players online. Don't buy the play and re-charge kit it's not worth it, I've heard it lasts for a good 4hrs. I don't really know what it's for but I just use some rechargeable batteries in the controllers and they last a few weeks before they need to be changed out.
I file share with my computer so I can look at pics or listen to music or whatever. I don't use it to watch movies though because I had bought dvd players before I bought the 360
Our $100 Walmart ecard was able to be used right away for groceries in the store.
Good hunting!
I arrived at 6:00 am, was number number 5 in line. One lady ahead of me had been their since 4:30 am.
My store learned a lot from last year. Instead of having us all line up in electronics with different lines for different products they had one line to the site to store area. Since this area is near the shoe dept they were able to wrap the line through the shoe aisles using yellow rope. They also had two employees to make sure everyone behaved, answer questions and such. Also since they were only using one line, they handed out barcoded tickets for the items you wanted. being number 5 I could have had my pick but only wanted the 42 inch sharp and the 298 laptop.
My sharp ticket said "#2 of 6" meaning there was only 6 in store (there goes the minimum 10 per store) and my laptop ticket said "#4 of 25" It seems they had a load of xboxes as the person ahead of me was number 4 of 250!!! Even the sales person said they were shocked they got so many and even called other areas stores to make sure they hadn't been short changed, but they hadn't. I guess they figure folks in the deep south love their games, LOL.
Anyway, concerning the xbox controversy, I talked to the people ahead and behind me that were getting xbox's. They were well aware of the limitations. Most has younger children and don't want them online with their gaming yet. They figure by the time they are old enough to want online gaming something beter will be out anyway. One couple said this was they best way the girls and the boys could have their own systems in their respective rooms and they as parents didn't have to watch over them to make sure something unwanted wasn't going on via the internet. Some planned to buy HDs and had already located a source for them at a cheap price So like a previous poster said, many were aware of what they were getting and were happy with it.
Last year I got the 46 inch sanyo LCD for my den and have been quite happy with it. This year I got the 42 inch sharp for my living room. My plan was to use it in the living room for a few months until the LED get lower than their current predicted black friday prices then move it to my bedroom. But the picutre on the HD channels are so spectacular! Even better than the one I got last year. Also there isn't a bad seat in the house, meaning no fade from any angle. So now I think it will be in my living room for two - three years for sure. the sound is just okay, even on simulated surround so I will probably buy a a receiver set up for it, will be on the look out black friday.
On the laptop, well I'm writing this from it! I love it! Windows 7 Media center is awesome, it goes out and find streaming tv shows from the internet and put them in a channel guide. It also works with my Zune and Netflix so I'm happy. I though streaming tv and silverlight movies would be hurky jurky on this budget machine with a celeron processor, but they aren't at all!! Someone told me that is the advantage of Windows 7. Also its been on my lap for 4 hours and no heat, which is wonderful!!!
So anyway, I'm VERY HAPPY again this year, thank you so much BFADs for helping me get the items I want but stay within a cash and carry budget!
Everyone has their own opinions on systems, and we have had some trouble with our xbox's, but if you get the RROD xbox has a 3 year warranty on that. The xbox suites our needs and most of our friends have xboxs too, so its always fun to play online with them!!
But I think the people that post here are severely underestimating the general population's knowledge of the gaming market. Do you know how many people I have seen buy a 120GB XBOX 360 because they thought it was twice as good as a 60GB XBOX 360? Just because you guys know what it has (or doesn't have), doesn't mean that all parents buying one for their kid for Christmas do.
spfleger, you and I are the type of people that need to speak up - people with broken 360s. The warranty excuse doesn't cut it. People who put up with it are the reason we get bad hardware. If MS puts out crap, and we buy it despite it being crap, what incentive does MS have to make it better? I don't know how anyone can continue to support a company who knowingly sold them garbage hardware. And you thank them buy buying another one? I don't get it.
