Walmart's Secret Friday Sale
We may have found another reason why Walmart didn't want their Black Friday advertisements leaked. In a report from the NY Times, Wal-Mart Jump-Starts Discounts for Holidays, Walmart will be running Black Friday-esque deals weeks before Black Friday.
This Friday, starting at 8am on November 2nd, 2007, Walmart will have 5 items on sale for “Black Friday Prices” at Walmart retail stores. Those items will be:
- Fisher Price Nascar Ride-On - $144.72
- Sanyo 50" Plasma HDTV - $998.00
- Acer Laptop w/ Celeron Processor & 1GB RAM - $348.00
- Blood Diamond HD-DVD - $14.96
- 12 Monkeys HD-DVD - $14.96
- Big Lebowski HD-DVD - $14.96
- Toshiba HD-A2 DVD Player - $98.87
In addition to the items listed, Walmart's Holiday website also allows consumers to sign up for “Secret In-Store Specials” by email or mobile phone.
Now, the golden question is: will these same items be on sale for Black Friday for cheaper prices? We don't know, but I will tell you that the Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player for $100 is the lowest price it's ever been sold at, making it a very hot deal. In addition, with the purchase of the DVD player, you can get 5 Free HD DVDs by mail through Toshiba and Microsoft (Download the 5 Free HD-DVD Offer in PDF here). With the average price of an HD-DVD being around $20, it's almost like getting the DVD player for free.
Thanks for Visiting and Tell Your Friends!
dual-core processor & 1GB ram. @ 299.99
I re-explained that it was a Friday only sale. No dice. They don't have Friday sales...
Have you ever felt like you were on a different planet when dealing with Wal-Mart?
Oh, I will let you know specs when I get back here. If anyone is still interested.
In the NY Times article, a Wal-Mart spokesperson is quoted as saying that this is an early Christmas gift to their customers. It was more of an early warning never to shop there again.
THANK YOU BFADS, I WOULD NOT OF KNOWN IF IT WASNT FOR YOUR EMAIL, I AM DISABILED & ON SSI & NOW I GOT A NEW LAPTOP IN MY BUDGET.
For me I love a great deal and these prices sound pretty good although...... walmart could give stuff away and i probably wouldn't even go. Walmart is a social tumor and they have a long history mistreating employees. The lost cost of walmart cost society more then anyone can save. They teach there employees how to get public bennifits since they don't pay them enough to survive and don't even get me started on the Chinese factories....... I just can't spend my money there when there are other discount stores have better reputations...... watch the documentary "The Cost of the Low Price"....just my 2 cents :-)
Thanks
if I PRINT the WalMart ad but I don't have the offical one.... will Sears still honour it. How do you find out the model number of the Toshiba DVD Player that is on sale at WalMart? Thanks
still not sure what the official company policy is
but it probably depends on the manager. I am
quite sure my district does not price match any
doorbuster special (especially out of stock).
I have seen sears immediately take things off the
website when there have been issues/misprints/out of
stocks.
side note - that 57-71185 seems like a sweet deal
though! 46 inch toshiba lcd 1080i for $900 off.
Regular $1900.
That is the real deal though.
Actually, I've been trying to find a good reason
to not buy it and save my money. Couldn't find
one! Best prices online are about $1400. And I
get a 10% discount too ($899.99)!. Only thing I
could find was that it was 7500:1 ratio. Not
horribly bad for what I'm paying.
This only frustrates me more.
Their after Christmas sales (which I usually participate in) have also been disappointing. I usually stock up on lights, paper, ribbon, etc; but last year they put it all on sale before Christmas. That made their after christmas sales undesirable to me.
cuts retailers gave, especially discounting their
outdated products like plasma and lcd tv's (usually
bought at high prices), they did
not make a big profit. Perhaps by Walmart setting the
standards low (prices) this early, they are setting up the
other retailers to cut more off their margins. Maybe
the bottom line is going to be the bottom line margins
when the results come in after Xmas. Walmart can
absorb marginal gains and still survive. Not many
retailers can.
